MakeNation is a marketplace that connects customers who want bespoke, handcrafted items with skilled makers and craftspeople. Whether you need custom furniture, jewelry, leather goods, metalwork, or any other handmade creation, MakeNation helps you find the right maker for your project.
MakeNation charges makers a platform fee starting at just 4% for founding makers — significantly lower than Etsy (6.5% + listing fees), Fiverr (20%), or Upwork (10%). Customers pay no platform fees. MakeNation keeps costs low so makers earn more and customers get better prices.
MakeNation uses a staged payment system to protect both parties. Payments are split into three stages — a deposit when you accept a bid, a second payment when work begins, and a final payment on completion. The maker sets the split percentages in their bid so you know exactly what to expect upfront.
You have two options: post a request describing what you want and let makers come to you with bids, or browse the MakeNation makers directory to find a maker whose portfolio matches your vision and request them directly. Either way, you choose the maker you want to work with.
MakeNation is currently invite-only to ensure quality. You can join with a referral code from an existing maker, or sign up for the waiting list. Founding makers who join early lock in the lowest platform fee (4%) permanently — that rate never increases, even as MakeNation grows.
Yes. Customers pay no platform fees on MakeNation. You only pay the price you agree on with your maker, plus standard payment processing (~3%). There are no hidden charges, listing fees, or service fees for buyers.
